Virgina Wine Time	"This past week, Paul and I ventured west to the Shenandoah Valley AVA to visit wineries. Cave Ridge Vineyard was first on our list of wineries to visit; we sampled the wines at Cave Ridge Vineyard when owner and winemaker Randy Phillips first opened the winery in 2007. At that time, we were very impressed with the lineup of wines, and we were eager to see how things had progressed since that initial visit."

Yak Yak Wine	"The gentleman serving our tasting turned out to be the owner and winemaker, Randy Philips, and during our conversation he figured out quickly which of his line-up would most likely match our west coast palates. The first and best match for me was the 2007 Chambourcin....This was the best Chambourcin I've ever tasted, no question."
Going Green	"Cave Ridge Vineyard reuses their barrels and uses biodegradable products whenever they can, and the tasting room was constructed using sustainable wood."
Vine Spot	"This past Saturday (1/31/2009), we held a blind Cabernet Franc tasting at one of my favorite Loudoun County wineries, Corcoran Vineyards. This tasting pitted several Virginia Cabernet Franc varietal wines, against Cabernet Franc wines from New York, California, and the grape variety�s homeland, France. In total, we selected 11 wines for this tasting." Results: 1) Score 76, Carmody McKnight CF 2004, (Paso Robles, CA), 2) Score 74, Cave Ride Vineyard CF 2005, (Mt. Jackson, VA), 3) Score 71.4, Pellegrini Winery CF 2002, (North Folk Long Island, NY)...... 11) Score 55, Dom Semellerie CF 2007, (Chinon, FR)
Virginia Wine Dogs	"All the reserve wines were standouts. We started with the 05 Viognier, Marcie's favorite among Cave Ridge's whites; the 05 Cab Franc has won lots of medals with a good nose and lots of legs; Munchkin was very enthusiastic about the fruit-forward 05 Petit Verdot (Karen's favorite) and thought she'd found her wine... until she tasted the 05 Syrah, recently judged best wine in its category in the Eastern United States. But the best was yet to come. The Wine Dogs got to experience the release of the 06 Red Silk Barrel Select Cabernet Franc. The smooth (and yes, silky) sultry red had Munchkin begging for more..."
The Rogue Sommelier	"We recently met with Randle on our latest tour. In his dark khaki shorts and shirt he resembled a man about to go on safari (on the hunt for fine wines). We began our time at Cave Ridge as all customers do with a 'straight down the line' table testing. Each wine displays a character all it's own. Carefully crafted in small batches, Cave Ridge wines are distinct in nature and body. They are more French in the mouth than American, and Randle Phillips likes it that way. There was not a single wine in the collection that was not pleasing or enjoyable."

Wine Compass	"The first tent we visited was for Cave Ridge Vineyard, a new winery located near Woodstock in the Shenandoah Valley. At today�s event they were pouring a Riesling, Viognier, Traminette, and luckily, one red wine: Chambourcin. This is a dry medium bodied wine with nice cherry flavors; light tannins provide a smooth finish. A good start to the day."
